Desires Of The Heart
by Ed Hirsch
What things are done FOR you in life which you take totally for granted?
Do you desire something that belongs to someone else, which you yourself do not presently own?
Desire, much of the time, leads to more desire and entraps us to make poor decisions.
In and of itself, Desire is not bad, however, if you want things for the wrong reasons (like not earning it first), this very well may spin a life out of control (and lost).
Solomon asked God for wisdom and knowledge and because he did not ask for riches, God gave this to him too. Because the King was doing God's desire (for the right reasons) he received much.
"If I ever go searching for my heart's desire, I won't go any further than my own back yard."--Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz
In my own success journey and related travels, I have learned that I need to build my future on a solid foundation in order to sustain growth over time.
I once read that it is IMPOSSIBLE to experience growth of any kind without STABILITY first. The Stability must mean the solid foundation of rock, or the day in, day out effort which accumulates into a momentum of value.
Looking for quick fixes and overnight successes is a fools game. Building on Sand is ok for vacation at the beach but not for the real world work-a-day life that we all find our- selves in when play time is over.
Sure, I would like to play more than I do now ... don't YOU?
However, it would be more joyful to play, knowing that you will return to a fortress of strength just begging for you to pick up where you left off before having some fun in the sun.
"If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. He will put some things behind, will pass an invisible boundary, new, universal, and more liberal laws will begin to establish themselves around and within him; or old laws will be expanded and interpreted in his favor in a more liberal sense, and he will live with a license of a higher order of beings. In proportion as he simplifies his life, the laws of the universe will appear less complex, and solitude will not be solitude, nor poverty poverty, nor weakness weakness. If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them."--An excerpt from "Waldon" (Pond) by Henry David Thoreau 1845
Instead of building castles in the sand, begin now to put together a life that works. Balance your time out so that all your most important areas of life are covered and work toward excellence in each and every one.
Your environment and the quality of people around you mean everything to a fulfilling life. Who you talk with and what you say to them will certainly determine the direction your future is moving toward.
Begin now to seek the knowledge and wisdom to create your destined future, not chasing the material things which will only lead to poor decisions and an empty soul.
The Desires Of Your Heart are just waiting to become fulfilled. Do now what you must because life is short and will end before you can believe. Each birthday seems to get closer together each year. This means we must do more, and achieve more significant results in between the time.
Summertime is great ... the days are long and the sun feels good. Don't waste this one, next years or anymore ever again. Do what you love, be with who you love and be aware of the present moment ... enjoying it for all it's worth.
It's worth a lot ... I just wanted you to know.

Ed Hirsch
