Electronic Cash Registers

Electronic cash registers are not merely electronic devices for recording sales. Their functions go beyond simply maintaining records and the providing a secure system.
Most electronic cash registers come with a raised keyboard and a multi-lane LCD display. The device can be connected to electronic scales to facilitate weights and rates calculations. They may come equipped with a memory and programs to set departments within the store. This is most commonly used in supermarkets and department stores.
If the store has several cash registers, then a network printer can print all the information at a single location. They can be connected to the back office software for inventory tracking and reporting. They usually have thermal printers with easy paper loading. Users can upgrade their memory size at any time, like a regular computer.
If there are special promotions going on at the store, there is a facility for discount calculations. The device will also have a barcode scanner and the system should allow for up to twenty groups.
The general, and most common, capacities are 300 PLU (price look ups) and 20 groups. However, this could go up to as many as 1800 PLUs. PC links and PC software can program all PLUs, clerks, and departments. Clerks are the people who can log into the cash register using personal login access codes. The departments are programmable keys to list departments like groceries, stationery, and toys or whatever other categories are present within the store.
The media slot allows one to insert cash or checks into the drawer. The drawer has an alarm system. If the drawer is programmed for a limit of $1000, the alarm will sound when the limit is reached, so a manager can take some of the money out of the drawer. This is an excellent security feature, as the registers will never have too much money inside them at any given time.
Electronic cash registers can be of great value to any business. They could be the ideal low-cost solution to cash register needs, across the board.
